PS5 No Video? Why HDMI Port Failure Is More Common Than You Think

The PS5 turns on, the light comes on, you can hear it — and the TV says No Signal. Before you assume the console is dead, know that a damaged HDMI port is one of the most common PS5 failures we see, and it's repairable.

Why the port fails

The HDMI port is soldered directly to the mainboard, and the cable sticks out the back where it gets bumped, yanked, or leaned on. Over time the tiny pins inside bend or the solder joints crack. A single hard tug — a kid tripping over the cable, moving the console with the cable attached — can do it in one shot.

How to tell it's the port

• The console powers on normally with the usual beeps and lights.
• You've tried a different HDMI cable and a different TV input, and still nothing.
• Look inside the port with a flashlight: bent or missing pins, or a loose, wobbly fit, confirms it.
• Sometimes video works only if you hold the cable at an angle — that's a failing port too.

If the console shows no signs of life at all, the problem is more likely power-related, and that's a different repair.
